For me, working out is at the bottom of my to-do list. After working and parenting all day, I don’t want to work out. I would rather spend one-on-one time with my son, cleaning the house, or cooking dinner. However, I know that working out is important (as much as I hate it), so I have found ways to fit it into my schedule.

Desk Treadmill

I love my under-the-desk treadmill. I primarily use it during my morning team meeting, so I am sure to walk for 20-30 minutes each day. When I am not using my treadmill during a meeting, I utilize a keyboard/mouse stand so I don’t have to bend over to work while walking. I have also seen those bike pedals that you can do under your desk, which seems like a cool idea too.

Take a 15 Minute Break During Work

I work through lunch, so sometimes during what would be a lunch break or a 15-minute break, I’ll do a quick workout in our home gym. I like to schedule these breaks during my son’s nap time so that I can get a better workout in. I don’t even change my clothes. I just workout in whatever clothes I am wearing. I would rather not spend the time changing into something different to workout.

Talk a Walk / Walk Your Dog

Make it a priority to walk your dog or to take your kid on a walk. It is good for everyone to get outside and stretch their legs. While this is not an intense workout per se, studies have shown that consistent walks are good for your health.

Workout with Your Kid

Since our son is too young/small to use our gym equipment, we sometimes use the Switch to work out with our son. The Switch Ring Fit Adventure game is fun, engaging, and we can play/exercise as a family. There are definitely other ways you can work out with your kid, but this is one of our favorites.

Something is Better Than Nothing

Something is always better than nothing. Even doing five minutes on the stationary bike or 20 on the treadmill is still better than doing nothing. Working out is not my thing, but I always feel better after I do it, even if just mentally proud of myself for working out. Consistency is key. Try and do something every day, even if for five minutes. It is good for you and good for your kids.
